Who Are Visiting North Yorkshire!

A little bit about us......

Let's clear this up from the off. We are not the Council! We have been operating for over 6 years now and the Council "reorganised" in 2023 and rebranded its tourism "offering" in 2024, opting to choose a name very close to one that was already established. Ours!

We have a core team who are all born & bred in North Yorkshire, going to school at Poppleton Road Junior School (Academy now) and then Nunthorpe Grammar School (or Millthorpe as it is today). North Yorkshire is in their blood and the promotion of York and North Yorkshire, in particular its tourism industry, is their passion.

With over 20 years' experience working with and supporting other tourism organisations and individual tourism-related businesses, they have a good, sound grasp of the challenges faced in the industry.

Big is definitely not better in our opinion. Large organisations rarely have the time or focus for individual businesses and we feel that what York & North Yorkshire tourism really needs is a dedicated organisation that is rooted in the County, working for the County and only the County!

We are accredited with the Good Business Charter.

So what of our organisation? What is Visiting North Yorkshire all about?

We aim to be the première resource for visitors to our amazing County. To grow our membership of York & North Yorkshire tourism-related businesses and to promote our County to the fullest extent!

We feel the time is right for change and we are offering a great opportunity to focus solely on York & North Yorkshire as a Tourism Destination. We work tirelessly to promote our members and the region, across social media platforms such as X, Facebook and Instagram, and even TikTok, with regular shout outs for our members as part of their membership package.

We want to see North Yorkshire as the leading tourist destination in the United Kingdom.

Membership comes with a modest joining fee.

We are committed to building a direct relationship with each of our members - working with you, as well as for you, to ensure your membership of VNY gives true value for money. We strive hard to ensure that we prove on a daily basis that, for example, the tiniest B&B in Stokesly, Thwaite, Ingleton, Hetton or Skipwith is as important as the largest hotel, attraction or restaurant in York, Harrogate, Ripon or Thirsk. Nobody is more important as anybody else.

There are no hidden extras with membership of Visiting North Yorkshire, everything we do is included in your annual membership fee. You get a full-page listing on our website. Unlike some websites, with Visiting North Yorkshire you have a full page which features no other member information. The page is entirely yours, with no limit on how much text you have, no limit on pictures, with links to all your social media feeds should you have them. If you run any offers then let us know - we'll promote them at no extra charge.

We care about your business and we care about North Yorkshire - join us and work together to make it a success!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you the Local Authority?
A: Absolutely not! In no way are we in any part associated with, or affiliated to, either City of York Council or North Yorkshire Unitary Authority.
We were established in 2019, but we are aware that NYCC have "rebranded" their tourism offering, with their logo utilising the rose shape and changing their name to "Visit North Yorkshire". This is admittedly very close to our business name and could cause confusion, especially as their initials would also be "VNY," which happens to be our Trademark.
  • What types of business categories will you carry?
A: We specifically focus on Accommodation, which includes Self Catering, Serviced, Camping & Caravanning and Glamping & Lodges.
We will also feature Attractions. We also list Vets, Doctors, Hospitals and Dentists.
  • So after the 1st year's offer the price will no doubt go up?
A: We will be charging the same rate for the second year.
  • Where are you based as we like our money to stay in the County and not be used to promote other parts of Yorkshire?
A: We are based just outside York and are here to promote tourism in North Yorkshire only.
  • So you say a full page on the site – how much information can we have on our listing?
A: There is no limit to the amount of text or number of images on your page.
  • Will you be taking bookings and commission?
A: We do not directly take bookings but will point people to you, so you can handle the booking yourselves. We will not be expecting any commission for any bookings which you take from visitors to the site.
  • So what if we have a special offer – how much will it cost us to get you to promote it?
A: No extra money will be taken from you as it is all covered in the initial cost, although we do have a tiered membership so depending on how many promotions you have will depend on which tier you are on.
  • What other information will be available on the site?
A: We aim to be a go to site for anyone wishing to visit or currently visiting our beautiful County and therefore we will be having information such as transport, activities such as walking, cycling, orienteering, park runs, etc, and even vets and health centres should anything unfortunate happen whist here.
  • Are you affiliated to any other organisation / association?
A: Visiting North Yorkshire is an independent organisation and any future agency affiliation will only be considered based on the benefits to our members. We do now incorporate the Tourism Alliance of North Yorkshire (TANY) which has served the County for over 45 years.
